Special dreams............

Dreams are so strange. So special sometimes. The night before last I dreamed of Alex.
it was so typical Alex. Alex had been living with me and in my dream she had been away. She came home unexpectedly after some time away. Just showed up bustling through the house like nothing had changed. Then just as unexpectedly she announced she was going down state to share an apartment with a friend. So could I please help her to get some things together that she would need in a new apartment life. So in my dream I am sorting through and finding things I could live without, not that I didn't want but that I could part with. She was excited and chose things for herself and I gave cutlery and glasses, dishes and the things she chose herself. She was so happy and said she would surprise Granddad and cut the grass (as if that would ever have happened) well she was cutting the grass and got distracted, she left it half done and the lawn mower in the middle of the lawn. Off she went............that was the first dream. Typical Alex and I enjoyed seeing her..........well last night I again dreamed of Alex. She came back. My dream continued from the night before. She came in plopped down in the chair and sat in gloomy silence. "What happened" I said...she said it didn't work out. I asked if she brought my stuff back. "heck no" she said "I was out of there and I didn't have time" .......I was miffed but kept it to myself but said "Well I bet you brought your tv back" .....big smile and then sheepish grin "yeh" she said. She bounced up and declared she was off to school................
So what does all that mean? That's new to me to continue a dream the next night. I mean I have awoken from a dream and gone back to sleep seemingly to continue it on. Never like that though. I also have these houses in my dreams that I go back to, places I know in dreams but not in real life. People in my dreams who visit but that in reality I don't know. Long ago I would often dream of my Nan, she would always be a place of refuge for me, her home was a bright light shining over the hill in the gloom. That I understand. I now often dream of my parents and my old homes but most often my dream homes. One in particular was a place we were buying that was full of antiques. It was an amazing gift to be able to buy it. The person had died and left everything in the house, all the personal possessions. Well I can work that one out but why does it continue? In one dream I had got a new house and I went to that one and brought some of the furnishings and art work back to the new house. Anyway, I have these places I know only in dreams. I also dream of my kids these days when they were kids. I must say I do enjoy visiting with people that I used to know friends and family who have gone. I have always dreamed like its a movie with me in it and it's a wonderful thing when it's a good dream. Not so wonderful when it's not though, and that does happen now and then and it stays with me for days.............I know the Bible has a lot to say about dreams and I wish I knew more. Meanwhile it was great to visit with Alex again. Love you Alex

Mondays day out, March.......

March winds. That's how it's been. Monday was not as cold as it has been but without the snow it seems much colder somehow. We stopped in Suttons Bay but nothing to see except for some Seagulls. How do those things stay so beautiful and white.

We offered some crackers as we sat and watched them. They are beautiful birds, very noisy and squabbly. For the fact that they dumpster dive and get into all kinds of garbage, how do they stay so clean.

Well we started off along the back road as usual, saw nothing to speak of. I did remember to stop to take a picture of the old school house. I always remember when we are past it.

I am doing my family history, when I look at the dates of some of these things, I realise that my family was just farm hands been there generations, and here far away, people were just settling these lands. I think what it must have been like back then, so beautiful with just the Indians. Then the loggers came and farmers and it would never recover.
Good Harbour

We checked on the cows we often pass, I love cows.We went on and passed Narada Lake, frozen still and nothing happening

Then we stopped by Port Oneida to check on the Beavers and whatever else we could see. Now Beavers are nocturnal so little hope of seeing them. We could see the activity though, more every time we go by. Looks like the Canadians are getting ready to nest. Joined by some Mallards. The Sand Cranes were far off. I think I can safely say I have enough pictures of Sand Hills.

Gerry hurt his knee getting down onto the beach so we didn't linger. We headed for Empire to check out the deer. No one around. One crossed our path to go get a drink in the river passing through Glen Arbor, but that was the only one we saw this day. We did see the swans on Glen Lake. So took a shot of them. I also saw a lot of Woodpecker activity. I like how they work a tree down and a pile of shavings at the base.

Nothing going on so headed home. Funny how most roads are clear and then you come upon ome thats covered in snow. Shows the snow belts.

So home for that day and probably for some time to come judging by the quarantine that has been set.

Stay at home..................

Monday we went for a drive, it was a rather dull day so it was shorter than usual. Last night we got the command to stay home. Stay put, no travel and so on, as I am sure everyone else has or will. So many people ignoring this. Personally I can't see why we can't go for a drive but until I can find out otherwise we stay put. Not too much to ask really when we see the consequences all too frequently on the news. The more modern generations have not had to deal with hardships, sacrifice or anything like that. My generation and before us, have. When I was a child I didn't know it as anything other than normal. Our folks dealt with rationing, our Mothers and Grandmothers and before them, did. They had to make do. It was normal life for them. My generation once into our teens didn't know what it was from then on and we were let loose from restrictions. Where our clothes were changed once or twice a week growing up, we now wore something different every day. Thankfully most of the Mothers now had washing machines of sorts. My mum had a side by side washer and spinner but clothes were hung on the line outside. When I left school Dad bought us a sewing machine and having learned to sew in school, we would make new outfits to go dancing.

I remember when it ended as I got to play with the ration books. Anyway........what I am saying is this, we are OK. Stay home. Enjoy a book you never had time to read. Watch a movie. Sew. Knit. Crochet. Learn a new skill. Spring Clean.......clean up the garden for Spring. It's almost time and the snow is melting.
I am amusing myself using up my baking stuff I got over Christmas. Today a bread and butter pudding. I made bread for the first time in ages. Two loaves not so good because of the yeast not being the best. (not my pudding, mine's in the oven)

So use up rice and make rice pudding. An old favourite. Wartime rations left us with some really good ideas and we have got used to fast food and so on, well get back to basics. You don't need big meals. Or elaborate dishes to have tasty and cheap food. I am sure, like me a lot of folks have things to use up. Well now is the time, less shopping to do, less runs to the store and so less spreading of the virus.

Phone your neighbour. I just did, made sure Bud has everything he needs. A lovely lady down the road left us some toilet rolls. Hard to find those so I got baby wipes and tissues. Back in the day we could use newspaper and other things but not anymore. The current systems cant handle it. src="http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/922/hHtng1.jpg" border="0">
Fear not, the Lord is with you. He will not forget or forsake you.............and it's really NOT that bad. Was going to start with our outing on Monday but it went in a different direction.

Cold and Windy but hey ho off we go........

We would have preferred a nice sunny day but we have to work with what comes up. We decided to take the usual route. Gerry actually suggested lunch in Leland WOW.....that's new. This remains one of the things we can do under the circumstances. This new strain of flu, or whatever it is requires staying away from people. A good walk on a cold beach is good for the health right.
So we started off back roads, to avoid traffic( so we can drive slow).... we didn't see much.We went into Suttons Bay but didn't see anything. Next stop The Samaritan's Closet in Lake Leelanau. I found a few good things. Not shown but I got a nice pair of white pants also.

I asked if we should get coffee and a snack but that's when he suggested Trishes dishes in Leland. We got soup and half a sandwich. They make wonderful Tomato Basil soup. The cherry chicken salad I chose was great. Outside Daffodils popping through?

It was really cold when I got out of the car in Suttons Bay and so it was no thanks to the beach. We didn't really stop until we got to our lake. (Narada Lake) We figured we couldn't get onto the boardwalk so pulled in at the farm house and barn.

I walked back to the lake itself and low and behold two eagles eating on the frozen lake. I watched for a long time. Fascinating.

Unfortunately I also picked up a Tick, been itching ever since. I am glad I saw it before it got hungry. Later found another. I have never ever seen a tick after being out in the woods or anywhere for that matter. I took a shower right away when I got home.Meanwhile after sitting watching the Eagles for awhile we headed into Empire in the hope of seeing Deer. On the way we did go down Port Oneida road to check the Beaver activity. The Sand Hill Cranes are back and hanging out with the Canada Geese. Also saw a hawk hovering and managed to see him perched in a tree. I missed the shot but got him leaving.

We stopped to check on the little lake by the Dunes and saw that the Swans are nesting.

So next we took the back road into Empire in search of deer.

On the back road into Suttons Bay we found a place with some very cute goats.

We took loads of Eagle pictures. My camera is still not as good as my old one was. I must find a new one that works as well as that one did, meanwhile we hope for a sunny day sometime soon and I think I will check out North Bar and maybe Esch Rd beach. The road to Good Harbour should be open soon.
