I moved here to Michigan in 1971. I have grown to love this area of Michigan, and especially further north in the Upper Peninsula. I love the wildness up there. The great thing about Michigan is being able to walk in the woods and on the beaches and have no fear of snakes. The beaches are safe to on the Great Lakes, no fear of sharks. Not that I can swim but thats another story. I love to walk on the beaches in the Spring and Fall before and after the tourists have left. This is such a beautiful area that people come here for vacations and end up retiring here. So it grows and changes but people did have some forethought and set aside hundreds of acres in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Hard at first for those who gave up property but in the end I hope it will be a good thing. Keep as much wild places wild if we can. Once changed its gone forever.

This rose (New Dawn) is a climber and as such makes a wonderful show in the garden. I need to figure out how to make my roses love my garden here in Michigan. So far I have not had much luck. I am thinking of sending for this one though and I have a spot in mind. We shall see, wish me luck.

This has to be the prettiest of roses. Roses make a garden so "English" to me. This colour makes the rose Etherial. Its such a beauty. Ice pink... but its name is New Dawn.
